Author Bio

Aged 21, the author has been enlightened through academia rather than practice.  A consequent thirst for knowledge has blossomed as the author aim’s to grasp wisdom for topics that are important for his world, rather than for the world of the exam board.

A graduate of Business & ICT in a UK acclaimed University, Matthew has had profound success over recent years through his studies and academic path.  However personal naivety is rife in terms of history, the animal world, and philosophy.  Through books, podcasts, and discussion, Spheel.com aim’s to document this journey.

…and a subtle switch to the first person…

Having finished my degree, I find myself more passionate towards evoking personal knowledge than monotonous television viewing and alcohol drinking.  This in mind, it’s become difficult to be my true self around friends.  I still enjoy sport and drink.  But when wanting to discuss these politics, philosophies, and histories, I struggle to find the person to do so.

Whether this website is isolated to myself or not.  It feels slightly more rewarding writing up my thoughts than not addressing them whatsoever.  The stinging point is that if this was to be discovered by certain friends, it would be an area for banter rather than an area for discussion.

    A recently discovered band for me go by the rather peculiar name of Momford and Sons. When I say recently discovered, I meen this in its literal form as I only downloaded their album not 2 days ago (Illegally I might add). This has brought about two main emotions for me.

    The first and most prominent emotion is that of happiness, at the discovery of a band with lyrics evoked by emotions and feelings; which I say, with confidence, is a rarity these days. I draw upon an example from their track ‘Winter Winds’;

    “And if your strife strikes at your sleep;
    Remember spring swaps snow for leaves;
    You’ll be happy and wholesome again;
    When the city clears and sun ascends”

    Compare this with a track from Razorlight called ‘Somewhere Else’;

    “I met a girl;
    She asked me my name;
    and I told her what it was”

    Now tell me who is the more successful band? Which is the more successful song? Injustice? I think so.

    The second emotion, and the one less prominant than the first but with deeper meaning, is a feeling of guilt. Guilt and downloading an album without paying for it. Guilt and downloading an album, not paying for it, and enjoying it. Guilt at enjoying music made by a good band, that will not receive reward or gesture from my market share because of my selfishness. Injustice? I think so.

    As you read this your thoughts will sway toward the “Whats he getting at; Whats his point” genre…

    …Ultimately, I type this with no agenda; No ultimate point; No climactic end. And for this I apologise.

    The feelings I have toward my selfish act of robbery, are feelings that would never normally be voiced or heard by anybody other than myself. But for some reason I have felt the need, upon discovering this site, to regurgitate.

    I now come, ironically, to an ultimate point. A climactic end if you will. I rant about my selfish guilt toward the unfortunate Mumford and Sons to prove a point. My point is your not alone in thinking your the last intellectual upon this dark, dank, shitty little piss hole of a planet. Few people our age even know what a planet is;

    “Pluto? Right?”

    “Wrong, you cretin, go play in traffic”

    We are a minority. We are unfortunatly outside of the stereotype for 21 year olds. Or are we? I know I live up to a good 90% of the stereotype because i’ve been told; BY YOU. But outside of this I like to think of myself as different. I lead two lives you see. There is university me, and there is Wirral me. Wirral me doesn’t drink often, if at all. Everywhere I go, I see a potential photograph. If not a potential photography, then a potential “I could so ride over that on my bike”.

    And believe it or not, i’m pretty well read-up. I do read Nuts, Zoo, FHM and Loaded….but when i’m not reading these, i’m on the guardian website reading about subjects that matter; like Haiti, Labour+Conservative, Economics etc.

    “The stinging point is that if this was ever to be discovered by those I count as friends, it would be an area for banter rather than an area for discussion.”

    You presume “Matt”. You presume wrongly. For ‘those I count as friends’ can further be categorised into the lot that ‘do banter in all situations’….and those who have the ability and the maturity to be able to turn ‘banter’ off and talk about something that actually influences us common-folk.

    Enough is enough. I’ve had my say.

    Peace out.
